Jackie Woods is coming in to help us with our topic, The Vikings.

We are going to make Vikings houses with clay, twigs and turf. Jackie was in on Wednesday to help us design the long houses. We are making them with Jackie next Friday.

NEXT SESSION WITH JACKIE (9th February)

Jackie came in on Monday to help us make Viking longhouses.

The girls made longhouses by rolling clay to look like logs, and building that up .Then they tied sticks together to make supports for the roof .We are using straw for the roof next time.

The boys decided to make jewellery. First, they made Thor’s hammer for hanging from a belt or leather necklace .They made them out of clay then decorated them with Viking symbols. Next time the boys are painting them.

THE PINAFORE PIRATES

Primary 4 and Primary 5 are putting on a show called the Pinafore Pirates. In it, people have to sing, sometimes by themselves!

a lot of people have to say a lot of lines as well. Mums, Dads and other people will be watching us performing the show and hopefully they will be very proud of us. We will be proud of ourselves. We are performing the show at the end of term.

Children at Strathpeffer Primary School used hundreds of 2 litre plastic bottles to construct an unusual greenhouse.

Head teacher Caroline Ritchie said, “We formed an eco-committee in the school made up of pupils from primaries 4, 5, 6 and 7 as well as teachers and parents.

The bottles were attached to bamboo canes to act as the walls and roof of the greenhouse.

The plastic 8ft 6in high structure was built with the help of parents and teachers one Saturday.

In the spring, wooden frame work benches would be going inside the greenhouse and the pupils will grow vegetables from seed. We are hoping to achieve the Green Flag award.”

The Eco-committee is hoping to recycle other things, like mobile phones, in the near future.
